Common plastic laboratory consumables

Plastic laboratory consumables has large consumption and various kinds . According to the material, they are divided into three categories: glass, plastic and metal. Among them, plastic has been more and more widely used because of its excellent performance, convenient molding and so on. Common materials include the following categories.

PP (polypropylene)

The material are translucent and good at chemical and temperature stability, harder than PE. It can be used in about 100 degrees. However, it is easy to become brittle, wear resistant and aging at low temperature. It is resistant to corrosion, common acid and alkali organic solvents are basically ineffective.

PE (polyethylene)

The material are non-transparent, strong toughness, anti-aging, light weight, no leakage and soft texture. It does not react with acetone, acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, etc.. It’s relatively stable, and easy to soften at high temperature.

FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene)

The material are transparent but the heat resistance is slightly lower. It can work at -85 degrees to 205 degrees environment in long time, and -200 degrees to 300 degrees in short time; High impact strength and creep resistance. Its crystallinity varies with the heat treatment temperature, so the molding processability is good; Non-toxic, non-viscous, electrical insulation, wear resistance, chemical stability; Can be colored, and the waste can be recycled.

PS (Polystyrene)

The material are transparent and hard. It is stable to most aqueous solutions, but can be corrode by a variety of organic substances.

PC (Polycarbonate)

PC material has the characteristics of high strength, good elasticity, high transparency, and high hardness. It can be disinfected at high temperature, but it is not resistant to strong acid and alkali and some organic solvents such as alcohol.

PFA (Polytetrafluoro ethylene)

PFA material is known as the "King of plastic". It is transparent, with high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non-stick, low friction surface, high tensile strength characteristics. This material is mainly used in trace analysis, isotope analysis, ICP-MS/OES/AAS analysis, semiconductor experiment, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
