Why do wounds leave scars? You did these wrong

Why do wounds leave scars? You did these wrong.

When we get injured, we often mistakenly believe that keeping the wound dry to avoid inflammation is the best approach. However, in reality, this is a misconception.

A moist environment plays a crucial role in the healing process of wounds. Compared to a dry environment, a moist environment provides conditions that are more conducive to cell proliferation and tissue repair, thus accelerating the wound healing process.

1. Cell Migration and Proliferation: A moist environment stimulates cell migration and proliferation at the edges of the wound, allowing new cells to fill the wound more quickly. Unlike a dry environment, a moist environment provides cells with more water and nutrients, promoting tissue repair and regeneration.

2. Wound Edge Healing: A moist environment helps with the healing of wound edges. In a moist environment, wound edges are less likely to dry out and harden, facilitating natural wound healing.

3. Formation of Granulation Tissue: A moist environment promotes the formation of granulation tissue, which is a crucial step in the wound healing process. Granulation tissue fills the wound, forms new skin layers, and eventually closes the wound completely.

4. Reduced Scarring: A moist environment can reduce the formation of scars after wound healing. In a moist environment, there is relatively less scar tissue formation, resulting in a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing wound healing outcome

Different types of wound dressings play a significant role in providing a moist environment. Here is a brief introduction to some commonly used wound dressings and their functions:

   - Main Components: CMC
   - Function: Maintains a moist environment, promotes cell proliferation and tissue repair, and accelerates wound healing. Additionally, hydrocolloid dressings soften necrotic tissue, alleviate pain, prevent infection, offer good elasticity and breathability, and are easy to use. They are suitable for various types of wounds, especially those with low to moderate exudate, aiding in rapid healing.

   - Main Components: Alginate, a natural fiber dressing extracted from seaweed plants.
   - Function: Suitable for moderate to heavy exudate wounds, with excellent absorbency, promoting moist wound healing.

   - Main Components: Super absorbent dressings are dressing with a SAP core.
   - Function: Super absorbent dressings possess excellent water absorption capabilities, quickly absorbing large amounts of exudate and locking it within the dressing, maintaining a moist environment around the wound, which is beneficial for promoting wound healing. Due to their high absorbency, super absorbent dressings are suitable for wounds with significant exudate, especially in cases of chronic wounds with heavy exudate.

   - Main Components: Polyurethane and PU foam.
   - Function: Provide a warm, sealed moist environment, absorb a significant amount of exudate, and contribute to wound healing.

5. Silver Ion Dressings:
   - Main Components: Polyurethane foam, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, silver, etc.
   - Function: Possess broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, can rapidly kill microorganisms, and continuously release silver ions, which help prevent infections and promote wound healing.

In conclusion, a moist environment is crucial for wound healing. Different types of wound dressings can provide varying degrees of moisture, and healthcare providers should select the most appropriate dressing based on the type and stage of the wound, as well as the patient's specific conditions, to promote rapid wound healing and achieve optimal treatment outcomes.
